Pouch form, fill and seal machines are producing pouches in the following way:
These machines are available as horizontal or vertical operating machines working in intermittent or continuous way.
The cross sealing of the tube is carried out by sealing shoes. Thereby the shape of the seam is only formed by closing the shoes. Usually there is no geometric forming or leading of the packaging material. Depending on the filling good, packaging material and pouch shape the random forming can result in wrinkles that will be fixed by the sealing process. Usually these wrinkles can lead to leakages of the pouch.
Aim of this project is the development and test of alternative designs of sealing shoes, to produce seams without wrinkles. It will be considered that the packing process, especially the efficiency, isn’t negative affected. Different concepts will be checked, whose capability will be tested on the test rig for web-shaped packaging materials at the Fraunhofer AVV in Dresden. In further steps these concepts will be analysed and improved to design an assembly which will be tested in real machines.
