Due to the EU harmonisation process and the globalisation of the markets the food regulatory requirements for food packaging materials get more and more complicated. The producers of food contact materials and articles are responsible for assurance and testing the compliance of their products with the food regulatory requirements. The continuous enlargement of the European legislation for food contact materials entails that more and more substances (starting substances and additives) get migration limits, which have to be observed over the whole production. To save expensive testing costs and to maintain or improve the competitiveness of the packaging industry, it is necessary to develop testing strategies for showing food regulatory compliance with optimised expense.
