Projectname:
Identification of Hazelnuts from old and new Harvest and Blendings

Workgroup: Chocolate technology

IVLV-Projectteam Leader: Frau C. Schuster-Salas, Alfred Ritter
Contract Partner: FhIVV, Freising
Responsible: Dr. K. Rieblinger

Financing: IVLV
Time: 2000

Hazelnuts are materials economically important for confectionery industry, freshly available only once in the year after harvest. It is to be guaranteed for the processing industry by suitable measurements that up to the next harvest raw material with a quality status is available, which can be processed continuously to stable and high-quality final products. Suitable methods are necessary to control quality of raw or shelf-life of roasted nuts and to prevent economic losses due to rancidity.

Raw hazelnuts (FAQ quality) of a period of 3 harvest (1998 – 2001) are reserved by the IVLV project-team for the investigations. It concerns about Turkish hazelnuts, type Karafindik, from the cultivation area Akcakoca (nut garden Karapuerecek with approx. 600 trees); annual proceeds are situated between 2 – 5 tons.

The research project, in which hazelnuts from three harvest years are to be studied, can be financially supported max. 2 years by the FEI. The project proposal was done in July 1999; a consent will be expected earliest for middle of 2000 (probably to 2001). Because of this reason the financing for the first half of the year 2000 is requested by the IVLV, so that the project, whose sample materials are already available, can be processed.

The harvest 98 (already analyzed, results have been reported to the working group) and the actual harvest 99 is already purchased. This unique chance is offered to manufacture and uncover by new methods. This material offers the unique chance to mix defined blendings and optimize analytical methods to encover this blendings. The results will be controlled and verified with the following harvest.
