Over the next few years, the conditions will be created in central Europe for wide market introduction of oxygen-scavenging packaging. This will involve packaging materials and packaging with designs modified for the European market and will require clarification of the benefits of oxygen-scavenging packaging for specific packaged goods and contents.
It is planned to set up a Test Centre for "Oxygen-Scavenging Packaging" in the period from July 2001 to June 2002. This facility will be financed by project funds of the Industrievereinigung für Lebensmitteltechnologie und Verpackung e.V. (IVLV) and funds of the Fraunhofer IVV. The main objective is to set up test facilities to support the technology and marketing of oxygen-scavenging packaging.
IVLV and IVV will act as the initiators and operators of the planned test centre. In doing so they are pursuing their own individual objectives (attractiveness for members / candidates for membership, attractiveness as a contractor for R&D services) and considerable synergy-effects are envisaged.
