Food packaging is subject to intensive light exposure on the shelves of the supermarkets. As desirable as the clear presentation of food products in transparent packaging might be, the fact that light can impair the food quality, must just as well, be taken into account. Because materials impervious to light, as aluminum, are avoided frequently for ecological reasons, quality losses due to light exposure seem to be programmed. The filtering out of the UV-spectrum from the visible light of the illumination has, for certain foods, a positive effect on upholding their quality.

Actually the influence of colored films or packaging materials in comparison to uncolored transparent films will be tested respective to keeping quality of food. Special experiments should show results whether influence of light or influence of oxydation have bigger effect on quality-loss of packaged food.
