Packaging Mean Specification

Projectname:
Development of standardised systematics for creating a specification of flexible web-shaped packaging means (made of synthetics, aluminium, paper or compounds) – Pre-study

Project Duration: 2006

Defined constant packaging mean properties, particularly with regard to protection of packaging good and the processability, are very important for high package quality. Referring to this the quality assurance requires a communication basis between packaging mean producer and its client as well as the machine producer, called packaging mean specifications. These are part of the product documentation for certification or accreditation of the entire product. The specifications have contractual relevance, are legally binding and the base of damage claims.

“Which requirements, especially on the part of packaging mean, have to be made or rather met, so that the product could be packaged in the machine with a high quality?” Answering this question within the research project a variable usable guideline for creating the packaging mean specification should be developed. It is necessary to fix the business partner agreements. The implementation of the quantitative details, e.g. with material composition data, is task of the business partners themselves. So the pre-competitive character of the project is saved.

In pre-study the existing specifications and software solutions should be found. The result of a requirement analysis will be the systematics of the relevant physical, chemical and biological parameters within different branches of trade and points of view.

In the second project stage a detailing of the specification content is aspired. The systematics for the relevant properties as well as their descriptive parameters and the regulation and rules, which are necessary for their determination, will be included. Another project part could be the expansion of the reference goods and reference packaging means. In this regard tests for the packaging mean requirements relating to the packaged good are feasible. The main objective remains the formulation of a guideline for creating the packaging mean specification, e.g. in the form of an online software template.

A guideline for creating complete specifications offers packaging mean producers, users/processors and machine producers a communication basis regarding the packaging mean. It can be used to avoid conformity problems and damages due to ignorance, misunderstandings or decentral knowledge management. By using the online software (internet or intranet) the required basic knowledge is central available with passable maintenance expenses.
