Projectname:
Friction Behaviour of Film – Development of a Friction Measuring Device
Workgroup: Filling and packaging processes
Spokesman of IVLV-Project Team: N.N.
Research Institution: Fraunhofer AVV, Dresden
Scientific Guidance: Mr. R. Claus
Financing: IVLV
Project Duration: 2009
The coefficient of friction constitutes a significant parameter in respect to the processing of films. It influences, during transportation and forming of films, the intensity of the pull-off force and web guide. Consequently, deviations of the coefficient of friction may cause damage to packaging material and lead to processing problems.
The aim of the research project is to investigate the friction behaviour of webs, in particular films under conditions relevant for processing. Within the course of the project the coefficient of friction will be assessed as a function of web speed, web tension, surface pressure and temperature. Research results will serve as base to develop a testing method suitable to determine the coefficient of friction of webs under conditions relevant for processing.
In the course of the project the coefficient of friction of different films will be determined by variation of the parameters: web speed, web tension, surface pressure and temperature. Based on interpretation and discussions of the test results the influencing factors will be hierarchically organized according to relevance. These results will serve as basis for the development of a testing method to identify friction behaviour of foils under conditions relevant for processing.
